Our Approach

The Great Migration is not a single event – it is a year‑round movement. This safari follows the herds according to season: calving in the south (Jan‑Mar), river crossings in the north (Jul‑Oct), or transitional zones in between. We position camps seasonally, avoid rushed transfers, and give you the flexibility to stay with wildlife activity. This is migration viewing at its most authentic.

CALVING SEASON (JAN–MAR)

Southern Serengeti / Ndutu – thousands of calves born, intense predator activity.

RIVER CROSSINGS (JUL–OCT)

Northern Serengeti – dramatic Mara River crossings, unpredictable but iconic.

Accommodation: Into Wild Africa Camp (mid) / Serengeti Sametu Camp (luxury) – positioning may vary seasonally

The safari journey gradually transitions through the Ngorongoro highlands before descending toward the Serengeti ecosystem. Wildlife encounters often begin before reaching camp itself, with the landscape slowly opening into the vast plains that define the migration experience.

Activities: Sunrise game drive, migration tracking, predator viewing, scenic photography stops

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The day is dedicated to following wildlife movement across the Serengeti ecosystem. Depending on the season, your guide may focus on open grasslands, river systems, or migration corridors where predators closely follow the herds.

Direction: Seasonal Serengeti exploration

Activities: Full‑day migration safari, wildlife tracking, bush picnic lunch, scenic exploration

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Direction: Migration corridor exploration

Activities: Migration‑focused game drives, seasonal river exploration, wildlife photography, sundowner experience

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Depending on the season, the day may focus on Northern Serengeti river systems, predator‑rich grasslands, or open migration corridors shaped by wildlife movement. The flexibility of a private safari allows routing decisions to follow current migration activity.

Day 6 – Additional Serengeti Exploration+

Direction: Serengeti ecosystem

Activities: Wildlife tracking, scenic game drives, optional sunrise departure, bush lunch experience

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Seasonal Migration Camp / Luxury Migration Camp

The additional safari day provides more depth to the migration experience while maintaining slower pacing across the ecosystem. This flexibility allows opportunities for quieter wildlife moments, predator tracking, and changing weather or landscape conditions.

Activities: Final Serengeti game drive, scenic transit through the plains, highland arrival

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Ngorongoro Farm House (mid) / The Manor at Ngorongoro (luxury)

Following a final morning safari in Serengeti, the journey gradually transitions back toward the Ngorongoro highlands. The drive allows one last opportunity for wildlife viewing while reflecting on the scale and rhythm of the migration ecosystem.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best month for this migration safari?

It depends on what you want to see: January–March for calving season in the south; July–October for river crossings in the north. We adjust routing accordingly.

Are river crossings guaranteed?

No. Crossings are unpredictable and can happen quickly or not at all for days. We focus on being in the right area and letting the movement unfold naturally.

How many days are ideal for a migration safari?

5‑7 days in a focused area is good. This 9‑day itinerary allows deeper immersion and flexibility.

Can this safari be customised for a specific migration event?

Yes. We can shift camp locations and routing to match your preferred season (calving or river crossings).

Is a migration safari suitable for families?

Yes, especially calving season. Private vehicles allow flexible pacing. For river crossings, older children (8+) are recommended due to long game drive days.
