A slower journey through waterfalls, coffee landscapes, and village life beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.
Located in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Materuni is a small village surrounded by coffee farms, banana plantations, and rainforest. This experience combines a gentle walk to a beautiful waterfall with an authentic local coffee‑making tradition. It is designed for travelers who want to slow down and connect with the landscape and community after a climb or before a safari.
The walk to the waterfall follows a shaded trail through tropical vegetation. After cooling off near the falls, you will return to the village for a hands‑on coffee experience – roasting, grinding, and brewing Tanzanian coffee the traditional way, all while looking up at Kilimanjaro's peaks.
The morning starts with a short drive from Moshi into the hills. As the air cools and the road narrows, the landscape becomes greener. The waterfall walk is gentle, shaded, and rarely rushed. At the falls, the sound of water and the surrounding forest create a natural pause. Back in the village, the coffee experience is intimate – you will join a local family, roast beans over an open fire, and taste coffee that was growing on the trees hours earlier. The atmosphere is warm, unhurried, and deeply connected to place.
The waterfall maintains a strong flow throughout the year. Dry season (June–October) offers clearer views of Kilimanjaro and easier trail conditions. Green season (November–May) brings lush vegetation and a more dramatic waterfall, though paths can be muddier.
Whether you are recovering from Kilimanjaro or simply seeking a quieter connection to the landscape, Materuni offers a refreshing pause.
