A refreshing natural oasis beneath Mount Kilimanjaro – clear turquoise pools, tropical vegetation, and a slower rhythm for post‑climb restoration.
Chemka Hot Springs (also known as Kikuletwa Hot Springs) is a hidden oasis in the lowlands southeast of Moshi. Fed by underground springs, the pools remain crystal‑clear and a comfortable temperature year‑round. Surrounded by fig trees, palm fronds, and vines, the atmosphere feels tropical and secluded – a perfect place to rest after a Kilimanjaro climb or a long safari drive.
The experience is intentionally unstructured: you can swim, float, relax on the banks, or simply soak in the warm water while listening to the sounds of the surrounding forest. A light picnic lunch is often included, and the pace is entirely yours.
After a short drive from Moshi, you will walk a few minutes through woodland before the pools appear. The water is invitingly warm, the current gentle, and the light filters through the canopy above. There are no loud engines or crowded beaches – just the sound of water and birds. You can swim, sit on the submerged rocks, or lie back and watch the trees. Lunch is served in the shade, and there is no pressure to do anything other than rest. For many climbers, this becomes one of the most restorative afternoons of the entire journey.
Chemka is accessible every month. The water temperature remains constant. Dry season (June–October) offers easier access roads. Green season brings greener surroundings and a more lush atmosphere.
Let us help you slow down after the climb or before your safari – with a natural spring experience that leaves you feeling restored.
